Top 5 Beaches In Puerto Rico

Around 2 million tourist visit the island of Puerto Rico every year generating almost 3 billion dollars in revenue. They all come here for one thing only, the beaches. Obviously there are tons of stuff to do around the island like; ziplines, caves, El Yunque Rainforest, bioluminescent bays and beautiful rivers. But most tourist visit the island looking to escape the cold weather and there is no better way to do this than having an warm relaxing day at the beach, here I give you a list of the best ones in the island:

  1.  Flamenco Beach:

This is the most popular for a reason, beautiful clear water, lots of space to settle down and great for all ages, even your grandmother is going to have a great time here. You can even rent snorkeling gear for 5 to 10 dollars on site. If you to want to venture even more there are two abandoned WW2 tanks 8 minutes from the main entrance. Its located in the small island of Culebra which is around 45 minutes away from the main island.

      2. Hobbie beach(El Alambique):

This might not be the prettiest one but it earns second place because of its location, situated in Isla Verde one of the most popular sectors on the island home to a plethora of hotels like the  Intercontinental, El San Juan hotel and the Embassy Suites. Minutes away from the airport, this should be your first stop.

       3. Crashboat:

Probably the most fun i've had at the beach, if you are looking for something more exciting than building sand castles or burying your friend in the sand then Crashboat is the place to be. Located on the western part of the island it once was a military port used to rescue air crews, some of the infrastructure still remains so you can take advantage of it and have some fun. Near the site there is a structure called El muelle de azucar( The sugar port) which is use as a diving platform for real thrill seekers. Quick side note the port took some damage during hurricane Maria in 2017 so it doesn't look like in the image but its still one of the best beaches in Puerto Rico.

      4. Domes Beach:

If you are the surfing type this is one beach you need to visit, with the spectacular nuclear dome posing in the background and the great waves this is a surfer's dream. It hosts the biggest surfing contest in the Caribbean; The Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit which attracts thousands of people every year. Near by is the Rincon Lighthouse, you can go and enjoy the sunset from there or take a peek on to domes beach from an elevated position.

   5. Playa Azul:

Playa Azul or Costa Azul is in my opinion one of the most underrated beaches in Puerto Rico, located in the municipality of Luquillo. As you arrive you are greeted by massive palm trees that provide a great set up area, best part is the relaxation you'll enjoy while on this beach, doesn't get too crowded unless is a holiday. It even has a volleyball net in case you're into sports.

Conclusion

The purpose of this article is to give you an idea of what beaches you should visit while in Puerto Rico, this is all based on personal experience. The best way to know which is the best one is to find out yourself, I encourage you to visit as many places as you can because even if you go to the best ones you're still going to miss out on a lot that's how good the beaches in Puerto Rico are. I'll leave some links down below if you want to get any snorkeling gear, thank you.
